FutureProof Hackathon Brief
FutureProof Hackathons are a series of 48-hour design sprints designed to help students create design solutions rapidly and in quick succession. This particular design sprint faced the challenges of working from home during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic. All teams had 48 hours to find a problem to focus on, conduct secondary and primary research, and create a solution intended for a specific issue they discovered during the process.

Introducing Office Party!
Office Party! is a one-click Slack extension that brings together coworkers for camaraderie and engagement that will boost company morale and creativity during this unusual time. Studies show that highly engaged coworkers can increase profitability in the workplace by 21% while disengaged employees can cost U.S. companies up to $550 billion dollars a year. Office Party! is a way to combat isolation and increase colleague engagement!

What’s Next?
While this is a solution that can be implemented now, we also want to look at how this can work in the future. We’d like to expand this extension so employees can participate in challenges outside of their homes once things are safer. Furthermore, to consider scalability and how this will work in the “new normal,” Office Party! will be able to connect coworkers working from home as well as those who will head back to working in the office.
